Quilts on Display

The quilts in the local Gallery were changed today and the new display will hang until the end of October.  Here are a selection of the quilts.

Janice was pinning sections of a quilt she has been commissioned to make which needs to be completed by mid-October.  It will be quite big and she was wondering how she was going to manage to get it quilted in time.

This afternoon I covered a denim vest in clingwrap so it is ready to glue newspaper strips onto tomorrow.  This is my newest paper mache project.

Happy quilting !

Great Day's Sewing

What a great day I had sewing, got so much done.
Got my girls sewn onto the background and this little quilt is now ready to baste and quilt.

The other 'blocks' were fused and needed to be sewn and they are all done now.  These will be used to 'decorate' more aprons.  I also managed to get another 8 aprons hemmed.

This is my 'African Lady' ready for an apron.

Happy quilting !

Selvedge Girls Playing

I have been working on my next selvedge wallhanging.  The background is made entirely from selvedges.

This is the outline of the girl, I will be reversing the pattern so there is two girls facing one another.
Both girls are made entirely from selvedges.  The dress of the girl on the left is done with plain selvedges, the girl on the right with wording selvedges.
They will be carefully positioned and then fused down and blanket stitched around each one on the machine.

I also have six rows of my selvedge quilt ready to be joined with sashing.  Will post another pic when this is done later in the week.
My selvedge stash is slowly getting depleted so I will need to beg friends for more LOL

Happy quilting !

Selvedge Play

This morning I have been 'experimenting' with the small 'off-cuts' selvedges (I don't throw any selvedges away LOL).

I have made a paper mache mannequin bust and want to cover it with selvedges.  Before I set to that huge task, I tried the technique I had in mind on a small paper mache mug I had made a couple of years ago.

Selvedges were glued on and then the whole mug was brushed over with glue to act as a 'sealer'.

I am pleased with the end result and think the technique will work on the mannequin bust.  I added some selvedges to the bottom of the mug as well.

It is now drying in the sun along with a couple of other paper mache bowls in the making, and I am hoping it dries well without the selvedges coming off.

Play time is over and it is now back to working on my latest selvedge quilt.

Happy stitching !

Relaxing Weekend !

It was so lovely to get away to our highlands shack for the weekend.  The weather was cold, snow still laid alongside the road in a lot of areas and the temps dropped to below 0degC for the 3 nights we were there.   But I did get some sewing done - pieced together 10" squares for another twister quilt and joined more rows in my Scrappy Hearts quilt - and also snuggled under a lap quilt on the couch and read a book.

The long cold winter in the highlands was too much for our resident 'Mr Wombat' who decided to leave his home under the back tank stand and move into more palatial digs under our shack. It appears he 'nudged' open a door under the verandah which allowed him to get further under the shack where it was much more snug and warmer.  It was so nice to see him still around in our 3 month winter absence.

I arrived home to this lovely parcel from my Texan quilter pal Dianna.  She sent little gifts she had picked up on her visit to Alaska to visit family, two fat quarters from an Alaskan quilt store and a gorgeous piece of circle batik fabric.  But I was overjoyed to get the selection of 'license plates' which come with the Row by Row kits provided each year by many quilt shops in many USA states.  I have wanted to get my hands on some of those license plates for so long and Dianna graciously collected some for me from Texas and Alaska.  I already have a quilt design in mind for them.

What a fantastic weekend I have had.

Happy Quilting !
